UK Music Industry Declares Climate and Ecological Emergency

The declaration has been administered by the newly formed Music Declares Emergency (MDE) group, an independent organisation created by music business professionals and artists.

Signatories include Universal Music, Sony Music, Warner Music, the Association Of Independent Music (AIM), Beggars Group, Radiohead, Festival Republic, Warner Chappell Music, SJM Concerts, Coda Agency, Abbey Road Studios, Crosstown Concerts, The BRIT School, Idles, Nadine Shah and the Music Venue Trust.

Sir Stephen Cleobury wins Musicians’ Company Choral Director Lifetime Achievement Award

The inaugural Choral Director Lifetime Achievement Award from the Musicians’ Company has been awarded to Sir Stephen Cleobury CBE.

This new award honours an area the company has not recognised before despite the company’s roots and strong connections with the choral traditions of the country. The award recognises the contribution that Cleobury has made in the 37 years that he has been organist and director of music at King’s College, Cambridge and before that, as sub organist of Westminster Abbey and master of music at Westminster Cathedral. He was also chief conductor of the BBC Singers for 12 years and is now their conductor laureate.

Deutsche Musikindustrie Wachstum 7,9 Prozent

Die deutsche Musikindustrie ist im ersten Halbjahr 2019 deutlich gewachsen, wie der Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI) heute bekanntgab: In den ersten sechs Monaten des laufenden Jahres nahm die Branche insgesamt 783,2 Millionen Euro durch Audio-Streams sowie durch den Verkauf von CDs, Downloads und Vinyl ein. Das sind 7,9 Prozent mehr als im Vorjahreszeitraum (1. Hj. 2018: 725,9 Mio. Euro Umsatz nach dem Gesamtjahresabschluss 2018). Das ist die höchste Wachstumsrate seit 1993.

German Music Industry Grows By 7.9 Percent

The German music industry grew significantly in the first half of 2019, as the German Music Industry Association (BVMI) announced today: In the first six months of the current year, the industry generated a total of 783.2 million euros from audio streams and the sale of CDs, downloads and vinyl. This is 7.9 percent more than in the same period of the previous year (H1 2018: 725.9 million euros in sales after the 2018 financial statements). This is the highest growth rate since 1993.
