WildKat US is thrilled to welcome violist Matthew Lipman, a leading light in the new brigade of exciting American concert artists, to its roster.

This summer Matthew is set to make his Chicago Symphony Orchestra debut as part of a busy schedule in the US and internationally.  He’ll perform Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante at the Ravinia Festival alongside fellow rising star Stella Chen. The pair will also perform the piece together with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe at the prestigious Rheingau Festival.

Other confirmed globetrotting engagements, as soloist and chamber musician, for the second half of 2021 include tours to Dresden’s Moritzburg Festival, and throughout the US and Asia as a member of Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

The performances follow debuts with the Minnesota Orchestra, BBC Orchestra, the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Seoul’s Kumho Art Hall, and Wigmore Hall, and recitals at Carnegie Hall, Aspen Music Festival, and as a featured performer at Michael Tilson Thomas’s Viola Visions Festival of the New World Symphony in Miami.

Not yet 30, Matthew’s chamber music partners have already included such luminaries as Tabea Zimmermann, Mitsuko Uchida, Itzhak Perlman, Sir András Schiff, and Jeremy Denk, and he has worked with leading conductors including Edward Gardner, the late Sir Neville Marriner, Osmo Vänskä, and Nicholas McGegan.

Matthew’s slew of accolades include the Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Kovner Fellowship.

He is the recipient of the Jack Kent Cooke Award and has notched up major prize wins in the Primrose, Tertis, Washington, Johansen, and Stulberg Competitions. He holds the Susan and Ken Wallach Endowed Chair at the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, and was recently appointed as a member of the Honorary Committee at the Music Institute of Chicago, and as the American Viola Society Artist-in-Residence.

In 2019, Matthew released his acclaimed debut solo album, Ascent, on Cedille Records, featuring the first ever recording of a newly discovered work by Shostakovich, as well as Clarice Assad’s Metamorfose, a commentary on grief and acceptance commissioned by Lipman in memory of his late mother.

He currently performs on an extremely rare viola by Matteo Goffriller, 1700, on generous loan from the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation.
