WNO appoints new chair and board members

Welsh National Opera has announced the appointment of Yvette Vaughan Jones as chair of the board of directors. Described by WNO general director Aidan Lang as a ‘tremendous asset’ to the company, Vaughan Jones (pictured) has extensive experience of working in the arts both in the UK and internationally, currently holding the role of chief executive at Visiting Arts. Prior to this, she wrote Cardiff’s bid for City of Culture 2008 and has previously worked as Policy Manager for the Wales Centre in Brussels. Speaking about her new role, Vaughan Jones comments: ‘I am thrilled at the opportunity to take on the chair of Welsh National Opera at this time and am acutely aware of the eminence of previous chairs who have done such a fine job. WNO is a fantastic organisation whose origins are well known to have been formed in the community choirs for which Wales is rightly famous.’

Gärtnerplatztheater: Anthony Bramall verlängert Vertrag als Chefdirigent

Der Intendant des Staatstheaters am Gärtnerplatz, Josef E. Köpplinger, hat gemeinsam mit Anthony Bramall dessen Vertrags-Verlängerung als Chefdirigent des Gärtnerplatztheaters unterzeichnet. Der in allen Sparten des Musiktheaters versierte Brite wird weitere vier Jahre in München bleiben. Anthony Bramall bekleidet seit September 2017 das Amt des Chefdirigenten des Staatstheaters am Gärtnerplatz. Nach sechs Jahren als Generalmusikdirektor des Badischen Staatstheaters Karlsruhe wurde der international gefragte Dirigent 2012 Stellvertretender. Generalmusikdirektor an der Oper Leipzig. Von 2008 bis 2011 war Bramall zudem als Professor für Orchesterdirigieren an der Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt« in Weimar tätig. In dieser Zeit leitete er bereits als Gastdirigent verschiedene Produktionen am Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, etwa The Pirates of Penzance, Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen und Carme«.

Gärtnerplatztheater: Anthony Bramall extends contract as chief conductor

The director of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, Josef E. Köpplinger, together with Anthony Bramall, has signed his contract extension as chief conductor of the Gärtnerplatztheater. The British conductor, who is experienced in all areas of music theatre, will remain in Munich for another four years. Anthony Bramall has been Chief Conductor of the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz since September 2017. After six years as General Music Director of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the internationally sought-after conductor became Deputy General Music Director at the Leipzig Opera in 2012. From 2008 to 2011 Bramall was also Professor for Orchestra Conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar. During this time he already conducted various productions at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz as a guest conductor, such as “The Pirates of Penzance, Die Liebe zu den drei Orangen und Carme”.

Une Première contrariée de Don Carlo à l’Opéra Bastille

L’Opéra de Paris reprend sa production de l’opéra de Verdi avec une distribution totalement renouvelée. L’abandon de Roberto Alagna, malade, après les deux premiers actes a terni la fête. Mais Aleksandra Kurzak, Anita Rachvelishvili et René Pape sont magnifiques.En 2017, la production de la version française intégrale de Don Carlos, confiée à Krzyrztof Warlikowski, et dans laquelle évoluait la fine fleur du chant international, fut un événement de la saison de l’ONP. Deux années après, la reprise, cette fois pour la version italienne en cinq actes (dite version de Modène), s’offre le luxe d’une distribution tout aussi prestigieuse. Il ne fallait seulement pas que la grippe ne passât pas par là.

Don Carlo’s premiere at the Opéra Bastille

The Paris Opera resumes its production of Verdi’s opera with a completely new cast. The abandonment of Roberto Alagna, who was ill, after the first two acts tarnished the celebration. But Aleksandra Kurzak, Anita Rachvelishvili and René Pape are magnificent.

In 2017, the production of the complete French version of Don Carlos, entrusted to Krzyrztof Warlikowski, and featuring the finest in international singing, was an ONP season event. Two years later, the revival, this time for the Italian version in five acts (known as the Modena version), offers itself the luxury of an equally prestigious distribution. It was just not necessary for the flu not to pass through there.
