Mahler Chamber Orchestra
Chamber OrchestraThe Mahler Chamber Orchestra is renowned for its passion and creativity, having been founded upon the shared vision of a free and international ensemble in 1997. It is a nomadic community of exceptional musicians, with 45 members of the core ensemble spanning 20 different countries, uniting for specific tours in Europe and across the world.
This summer, the MCO will complete their four-year project “The Beethoven Journey” at the BBC Proms with Norwegian pianist and Artistic Partner of the MCO, Leif Ove Andsnes, “The Beethoven Journey” has been accompanied by the award-winning education project “Feel the Music”, which invites deaf or hard hearing children to explore music through hearing, feeling and creating.
The MCO’s core repertoire lies in the Viennese Classical and early Romantic periods, whilst also playing more contemporary works and world premieres. Later this summer, the MCO will perform the US Stage Premiere of George Benjamin’s Written On Skin at the Lincoln Center, New York, following their performance of the World Premiere at Aix-en-Provence in 2012.
The summer will conclude with the MCO’s return to the Lucerne Festival with maestro Daniele Gatti. In September, the orchestra will launch the Carl Nielsen portrait project at the Musikfest Berlin with a performance of “Sinfonia Semplice”.
