Raymond Yiu

Award winning Contemporary classical composer Raymond Yiu’s first major work Distance of the Moon was premiered by the renowned Lukas Foss. He proceeded to win critical acclaim for his debut opera score for The Original Chinese Conjuror, which was premiered at Aldeburgh Festival in 2006

Mainly self-taught, Raymond’s music has captured the imagination of performers and audience with its intricacy, quirkiness, sense of exploration and unpredictability. He infuses his work with a definitive blend of Asian music, western influences and his academic discoveries.

“Symphony”, commissioned by the BBC for the counter tenor Andrew Watts and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, will receive its world premiere on 25th August 2015, under the baton of Edward Gardner as part of the BBC Proms 2015.
