Tom Smail

Having begun his musical career as a professional jazz drummer, Tom Smail is now a composer of orchestral, chamber and choral music. His highly original voice, aided perhaps by his extensive work writing for film and television, is intensely atmospheric and visual. His works have been toured nationally by English Touring Opera and recorded narrators (for his Fairy Tales) include Michael Gambon and Harry Enfield. 2012 highlights included the Allegri Quartet performing his String Quartet No.1 (‘For Alba’), the première of Music in the Marble (a symphonic work in seven short movements) with City of London Sinfonia and the completion of his first symphony. Tom is married to the writer, Alba Arikha and currently resides in London.

“Tom Smail is one of the most fascinating and lyrical composers of his generation” Christopher Hart (Sunday Times).
