Following the release of his critically acclaimed album Escape to Paradise in September, violinist Daniel Hope will tour the repertoire from the disc in a highly anticipated run of five dates in Germany, kicking off in Hannover this evening. Accompanied by the NDR Radio Philharmonie and Andrew Manze, the tour will also reach Düsseldorf, Braunschweig, Osnabrück and Berlin where it will finish on the 28th November.
Escape to Paradise explores the music of the celebrated European composers who fled persecution in Europe during the Second World War and settled in Hollywood where they composed music for films and effectively founded the film music industry as we know it today. Much is owed to composers such as Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Miklós Rózsa, Kurt Weill and their contemporaries, whose works became entrenched in the movie and entertainment world, forming the basis of much of the film music heard and loved today. The disc was praised as “highly-charged and sumptuously expressive” by BBC Music Magazine and “beautifully realised” by Gramophone.
