After many years of experiencing concerts, we have been thinking, what other instruments are out there that produce more unusual sounds.

When it comes to musical instrument making, a good amount of creativity is required. The elementary school teacher Junji Koyama from Japan does not only make instruments out of vegetables and fruits, he also plays on them. On his own YouTube channel, he presents the cabbage slide whistle, the carrot pipe and the celery nose flute. You can also watch instruction videos and his suggestion to upcycle the left-overs: Just eat it!

Turn up the temperature in the concert hall and you’d have, not a finely chiseled viola, flute or conga, but a glass of water. Ice-instrument maker Tim Linhart has held ice concerts in the coolest locations all over the globe. Originally from New Mexico, Linhart was invited to one of the world’s first ice hotels in Luleå, Swedish Lapland.
