WildKat congratulates Moritz Eggert on his new position as President of the German Composer Association. For many years we have worked with Moritz Eggert and can’t help but to congratulate the Association on its wonderful choice, as Eggert is one of the most creative and outspoken composers of his generation, thriving on bringing people and art together, never afraid to speak up, when his voice is needed. Here is the official statement:

On Friday 30 October, the Federal Executive Board of the German Composer Association (DKV) unanimously elected Moritz Eggert as the new president of the association. He succeeds Enjott Schneider, who resigned on 14 September 2020 for health reasons whilst his term of office was still running.

Vice-President Ralf Weigand, who had taken over the chairmanship in the interim, is delighted with this result: “A good day for composers of all genres in the country, especially in a time when we are not exactly showered with good news. With his energy and eloquence, Moritz will represent our concerns prominently in politics and society and contribute to ensuring that the relevance and role of composers as the initial creators of all music is understood and appropriately classified.”

With Moritz Eggert taking up this position, we see a top musical expert elected to office, someone who has made a name for himself far beyond composing, both as a pianist/performer and as a politician experienced in debate, for example with his much-acclaimed “Bad Blog of Musick” in the magazine NMZ. From 2004-2007 he was a member of the DKV’s board of directors and in 2008 he became a member of the GEMA’s Federal Expert Committee “Music Authors”. Since 2010 he has been professor of composition at the Munich University of Music and Theatre and is a passionate supporter of the next generation of composers.

Moritz Eggert: “I am very pleased to take up the office of DKV President with immediate effect at the request of the Executive Board, which my esteemed predecessor Enjott Schneider was unable to continue in office for private reasons. We cannot thank Enjott enough for his many years of commitment to both GEMA and DKV – these are certainly very impressive footsteps, which I do not presume to be able to fill so quickly. One could hardly imagine a stranger time to take over this association. The challenges of the coming months will be numerous at a time when the existence of many of our members is threatened. At the same time, however, I know that I can rely on a very strong team of committed national associations and specialist groups on whose advice and support I can build”.

Moritz Eggert zum neuen Präsidenten des Deutschen Komponistenverbandes gewählt

Am Freitag den 30. Oktober wählte der Bundesvorstand des DKV aus seinen Reihen Moritz Eggert einstimmig zum neuen Präsidenten des Berufsverbandes. Er tritt die Nachfolge Enjott Schneiders an, der am 14. September aus gesundheitlichen Gründen noch während der laufenden Amtszeit zurückgetreten war.

Vizepräsident Ralf Weigand, der interimistisch den Vorsitz übernommen hatte, freut sich über dieses starke Votum: „Ein guter Tag für die zahlreichen Komponistinnen und Komponisten aller Genres im Land, die derzeit nicht gerade mit guten Nachrichten überschüttet werden. Moritz wird mit seinem Elan und seiner Eloquenz unsere Anliegen prominent in Politik und Gesellschaft vertreten und dazu beitragen, dass die Relevanz und Rolle der Musikurheber als initiale Kreateure aller Musik gesellschaftlich begriffen und angemessen eingeordnet wird.“

Mit Moritz Eggert konnte für dieses Amt ein musikalischer Top-Experte gewonnen werden, der weit über das Komponieren hinaus auch als Pianist/Performer sowie als diskussionserfahrener Kulturpolitiker, etwa mit seinem vielbeachteten „Bad Blog of Musick“ in der Zeitschrift NMZ, sich einen wohlklingenden Namen machen konnte. Bereits von 2004-2007 war er Mitglied im Vorstand des DKV und gehört seit 2008 dem Bundesfachausschuss „Musikurheber“ der GEMA an. Seit 2010 ist er Professor für Komposition an der Münchener Hochschule für Musik und Theater und engagiert sich als leidenschaftlicher Unterstützer der jüngeren Komponistengeneration.

Moritz Eggert: „Ich freue mich sehr, auf Wunsch des Vorstands ab sofort das Amt des DKV-Präsidenten zu übernehmen, das mein geschätzter Vorgänger Enjott Schneider aus privaten Gründen zur Verfügung gestellt hat. Wir können Enjott nicht genug danken für sein viele Jahre umspannendes Engagement in sowohl der GEMA wie auch dem DKV – es sind auf jeden Fall sehr beeindruckende Fußstapfen, die ich mir nicht anmaße so schnell ausfüllen zu können. Man könnte sich sicherlich kaum eine seltsamere Zeit vorstellen, diesen Verband zu übernehmen. Die Herausforderungen der nächsten Monate werden zahlreich sein in einer Zeit, in der viele unserer Mitglieder existenziell bedroht sind. Gleichzeitig weiß ich aber auch, dass ich mich auf ein sehr starkes Team aus engagierten Landesverbänden und Fachgruppen verlassen kann, auf deren Rat und Unterstützung ich bauen kann.“
