Scottish tenor Nicky Spence has enlisted some of the brightest stars from the world of opera to cycle the length of the UK, from Glasgow all the way to London. Nine opera singers will cycle over 500 miles in eight days. The team includes Ailish Tynan, Nicky Spence, Mary Bevan, Louise Alder, and many other artists from The Royal Opera House, English National Opera, The Metropolitan Opera New York and La Scala.
Kicking off at the Scottish Opera Headquarters in Glasgow on 24th July, the tour will be celebrated with performances from some of the cyclists alongside the young people of The Scottish Opera Connect Company. Throughout the journey the cyclists will take part in a series of special events, visiting some unique musical landmarks and communities both from major cities and from further afield. The goal is to raise £25,000 in aid of Help Musicians UK, a charity that supports musicians in need.
The challenging journey will take the artists along the following routes:
24 July – Glasgow to Biggar
25 July – Biggar to Hawick
26 July – Hawick to Newcastle
27 July – Newcastle to York
28 July – York to Manchester
29 July – Manchester to Birmingham
30 July – Birmingham to Oxford
31 July – Oxford to London
