The 10-day long PODIUM Festival kicks off today with their Madness of May barbecue party and concert in Esslingen, Germany. The programme of the opening concert literally whets our appetite for the events to come: we are looking forward to concerts combining electronic and classical music with improvisation dance by the BUNDESJUGENDBALLETT; a concert lecture for musicians, narrator and eight speakers in the musical literary project Europa: „Ein Tag wird kommen…?” (transl Europe: “A day will come…?”); the intelligent, robot-assisted sound machines which generate music from live playing instruments… and so much more.

The PODIUM Festival team break with traditions on their quest for new ways of experiencing and encountering classical music. Musicians from all over the world meet in Esslingen to challenge traditional performance formats and promote a new intercultural debate about the actuality of classical music with their music-making and thus revolutionise the classical music world from within.

Auftakt des PODIUM Festivals

Das 10-tägige PODIUM Festival in Esslingen bei Stuttgart hat heute seinen Auftakt. Gäste des Eröffnungskonzert Madness of May sind eingeladen zu Grillparty und Konzert – ein Programm, das wortwörtlich Geschmack macht auf die kommenden Veranstaltungen, die einladender und innovativer nicht sein könnten. Es erwarten uns Konzerte, die elektronische und klassische Musik mit Improvisationstanz des BUNDESJUGENDBALLETTs verbinden; eine konzertante Lesung für Musiker, Sprecher und acht Lautsprecher in dem musikalisch-literarischen Kunstprojekt Europa: „Ein Tag wird kommen…“?; die Sound Machines: intelligente, roboter-gesteuerte Klangmaschinen aus live spielenden Musikinstrumenten und vieles mehr.

Die Macher des PODIUM Festivals brechen auf der Suche nach interaktiven Begegnungsformen mit klassischer Musik mit althergebrachten Konventionen. Musiker aus aller Welt finden sich in den nächsten Tagen in Esslingen ein, um im gemeinsamen Musizieren eine neue, interkulturelle Auseinandersetzung mit der Aktualität klassischer Musik anzuregen und konventionelle Aufführungsformate zu hinterfragen und revolutionieren so von innen die klassische Musikwelt.
