BACKRicordi unterzeichnet in New York einen globalen Exklusivvertrag mit den US-Komponisten Michael Gordon, David Lang und Julia Wolfe
Der Verlag übernimmt die Kataloge von den drei herausragenden US-Komponist*innen Michael Gordon, David Lang und Julia Wolfe. Dies gab Ricordi & Co., New York gestern Abend bekannt. Das Trio ergänzt Universal Music Publishing Classicals Weltklasse-Liste führender Komponisten der letzten Jahrhunderte, darunter Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Varèse, Nono, Battistelli, Francesconi, Haas, Neuwirth und Grisey, sowie Debussy, Ravel, Milhaud, Poulenc, Messiaen, Dusapin, Kodály, Kurtág u.v.m.
Alle drei Künstler prägen mit Ihren Kompositionen maßgeblich die heutige Musiklandschaft. Sei es durch ihre gemeinschaftliche Arbeit als Künstlerkollektiv Bang On A Can oder auch ihre zahlreichen Soloarbeiten:
Julia Wolfe, Gewinnerin des Pulitzer-Preises für Anthracite Fields und des MacArthur Fellowship, wurde in diesem Jahr (2020) für ihr bei Decca erschienenes Oratorium Fire in my mouth für zwei Grammy Awards nominiert. Ihre Kompositionen sind von Folk, Rock und amerikanischer klassischer Musik inspiriert.
David Lang, der für einen Golden Globe Award in der Kategorie Bester Originalsong für Paolo Sorrentinos Film „Jugend“ nominiert war, erhielt für sein Chorwerk The little match girl passion (2008) ebenfalls einen Pulitzer-Preis und einen Grammy Award. 2019 wurde seine Oper Prisoner of the State, die von der New York Philharmonic in Auftrag gegeben wurde, uraufgeführt.
Michael Gordon ist einer der Pioniere der Genres des Post-Minimalismus und Totalismus der 1980er und 1990er Jahre. Seine monumentalen Werke bieten dem Zuhörer ein völlig vereinnahmendes Hörerlebnis. Zu seinen jüngsten Einspielungen gehört Clouded Yellow – ein Streichquartett aufgeführt vom Kronos Quartett. Michael Gordons aktuellste Veröffentlichung ist Anonymous Man mit The Crossing (Cantaloupe Music, 03/20).

Ricordi & Co. New York signs global contract with US composers Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe
The music publishing house, Ricordi & Co, New York has signed an exclusive global contract in New York with US composers Michael Gordon, David Lang and Julia Wolfe. Ricordi & Co, New York will take over the catalogues from the three outstanding US composers, namely Gordon, Lang and Wolfe. This was announced yesterday by Ricordi & Co, New York. Combined, the trio complements the vast array of talent already on the Universal Music Publishing Classical, world-class list. Comprised of the likes of leading composers from previous centuries, including Rossini, Verdi, Puccini, Varèse, Nono, Battistelli, Francesconi, Haas, Neuwirth and Grisey. As well as Debussy, Ravel, Milhaud, Poulenc, Messiaen, Dusapin, Kodály, Kurtág and many more.
With their unique compositions, all three artists have had a dramatic influence on today’s musical landscape. Albeit, through their collaborative work on the collective ‘Bang-on-a-can’ stint as well as their numerous solo works:
Julia Wolfe, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Anthracite Fields and the MacArthur Fellowship, was nominated for two Grammy Awards this year for her oratorio Fire in my mouth, published by Decca. Her compositions are inspired by folk, rock and American classical music.
David Lang, who was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the category Best Original Song for Paolo Sorrentino’s film Youth, also received a Pulitzer Prize and Grammy award for his choral work, titled The Little Match Girl Passion (2008). His opera, Prisoner of the State, commissioned by the New York Philharmonic premiered in 2019.
Michael Gordon is one of many pioneers of the genres of post-minimalism and totalism during the 1980s and 90s. His monumental works offer the listener a totally immersive listening experience. His most recent recordings include Clouded Yellow – a string quartet performed by the Kronos Quartet. His most recent release is Anonymous Man with The Crossing (Cantaloupe Music, 03/20).
