TONIGHT – Bamberg Symphony at Berlin Philharmonie

The Bamberg Symphony will perform at the Berlin Philharmonie tonight at 8pm as part of the Musikfest Berlin. The festival takes place at the Philharmonie and its Kammermusiksaal over the course of 21 days. 25 orchestras, instrumental and vocal ensembles and numerous soloists are representing the international music scene and the music city of Berlin in 31 events with over 75 works by 24 composers.

The Bamberg Symphony will be led by their principal conductor Jonathan Nott in a performance of Max Reger’s “Fantasy and Fugue” [1915] with organist Christian Schmitt. Richard Strauss “Four Last Songs” [1948] 
will be performed with renowned singer Genia Kühmeier who steps in for the ill Christine Schäfer. The concert will be concluded with Helmut Lachenmann’s “Ausklang” [1984/85] with pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard.

Once again the Bamberg Symphony are guests at the Musikfest Berlin and strengthen their reputation as one of the most widely travelled orchestras in Germany. Since their foundation in 1946, they performed more than 6,500 concerts in 60 countries in over 500 cities and are well-known as Cultural Ambassador for Bavaria.

The orchestra will be opening the concert season in their home in Bamberg on 19th, 20th and 21st September.
