Thursday 4th August 2022

WildKat Is Excited To Welcome Soprano Kathryn Lewek, One of Opera’s Most Thrilling Coloraturas

Kathryn Lewek  has held a variety of diverse roles, from her début as Ginevra in Ariodante with the Salzburger Pfingstfestspiele in Austria, to Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, which she has performed with over 25 companies totalling more than 300 performances to date.

This season, Kathryn returns to The Metropolitan Opera for her 50th performance on the Met’s stage as Queen of the Night, making her the current record-holder for the most performances at The Metropolitan Opera in a single role.

This September, she will be featured in Eastman School of Music’s Centennial Celebration: Meliora Weekend 2022, which gathers acclaimed alumni, faculty, and students in the culminating weekend of the months-long anniversary festivities. Lewek makes her role debut in Le Comte Ory (Adèle) at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, with Lawrence Brownlee and Joshua Hopkins in Fall 2022.

She has performed in many of the world’s most renowned opera houses, including Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bregenzer Festspiele, Houston Grand Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Washington National Opera, Teatro Real in Madrid, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Festival Castell de Peralada, Opera Leipzig, The Royal Danish Opera, amongst many others.

In Kathryn’s 2013 Carnegie Hall debut in Händel’s Messiah, The New York Times praised her  “communicative verve and thrilling beauty”. Her 2019 return in Barrie Kosky’s production of Orphée aux Enfers was noted as “ravishing” (Bachtrack) in her “raunch, full-throttle” (Financial Times) role of Eurydice, earning her Artist of the Week in OperaWire.
