We here at WildKat will be recommending 5 items that we have found inspiring, educational or enjoyable recently. Every Monday, a member of WildKat will recommend an Album, a Livestream or Concert, and three other items that mean something to them. We will also be including links to everything in their descriptions below. Be sure to check back each week as we will be sharing a new list of recommendations!
This week, we have Press Assistant Rob Shone sharing his recommendations!
Album
‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ – Bon Iver
‘With Storm Francis causing wet weather across the UK, I’ve been dipping back into a favourite album of mine. Composed in isolation in his father’s cabin, Justin Vernon pours his then-feelings of mediocrity and frustrations into this very personal album. The care and craft brought to his recordings is very emotive and is a favourite of mine on a rainy day.’
Concert
BBC Proms: Chineke! Orchestra with Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Jeanine De Bique (2017)
‘Throughout the pandemic, I have been missing the live musical experience. So its been a small blessing to be able to go back and relive all of the many highlights of the BBC Proms. In particular, Chineke! Orchestra’s Prom performance from 2017 with Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Jeanine De Bique is a particular highlight! It’s a seriously wonderful array of musical treats.’
Recipe
One-Pot Lasagna (Binging with Babish)
‘Over the lockdown, I’ve been teaching myself how to cook properly. Like many others, I’ve have turned to the internet to aid me. In particular, I’ve been learning from a YouTuber named ‘Binging with Babish’. Whilst he is known for recreating food and drink from popular culture, I’ve been enjoying his ‘Basics with Babish’ series. Over the months, I’ve made a number of his recipes but if I had to recommend one it would be his One-Pot Lasagna. It radically reduces the cooking time from 3 hours to 45 minutes, which is great for a week-night. It’s also surprisingly easy and tastes delicious! You can find it in the video below with 2 other One-Pot pasta recipes.’
Film
The Lighthouse (2019)
‘This one is not for the faint-hearted. Directed by Robert Eggers, The Lighthouse follows two Lighthouse keepers descent into madness whilst stranded in a New-England Lighthouse in the 1890s. A disturbing horror entirely shot in a 1.19:1. aspect ratio in black and white, the film features outstanding acting from Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe, captivating atmosphere, and a brilliant score from Mark Korven. Definitely one to watch, if you can stomach it!’
Video Game
A Short Hike
‘A Short Hike is the epitome of ‘lovely’. A short and sweet adventure game, you play as a bird called Claire as you climb to the summit of a mountain in order to gain mobile reception. You COULD climb straight to the top, but that would be missing the point of the game. A Short Hike’s charm comes from taking the long way through the backroads of nature park, meeting an assortment of colourful characters along the way. From digging up treasure, to fishing, to speed-boat racing, to helping other visitors along the way, A Short Hike has a huge variety of things to do. It’s well worth an explore!’
