Musician and composer John Matthias and record label Village Green have released another live video of music from John’s fantastic album. The second video is released today on youtube and features the track ‘Close Knit’ from John’s new album ‘Geisterfahrer’, out now to buy here.
This track was reviewed as ‘haunting’ by Irregular Crates, who also noted ‘the subtlest of electronic influence’ in this beautiful piece of music. John performs on the violin accompanied by piano and the ‘Neurogranular Sampler’, an instrument designed by John at Plymouth University with Jane Grant, Tim Hodgson, Nick Ryan, Kin Design and Eduardo Miranda.
John performed ‘Close Knit’ on BBC Radio 3 this February in the lead up to the album launch, describing the Neurogranular Sampler’s process whereby a ‘violin is played into the computer, which then takes part of that sound….when the neurons fire, it takes those pieces and retriggers them’ live on the show. Presenter Sean Rafferty described John’s performance as ‘fantastic’ and bringing the show ‘right up to date’.
